When I started to take an interest in machine tools I also started to browse Ebay and similar marketplaces for (fairly) low cost, and transportable Lathes, so i could get my feet wet in machining. But living in a tiny bedroom with three flatmates, I never expected to actually buy one of the beautiful machines I saw online.
However, when your default Idle animation is browsing Kleinanzeigen for a specific thing, your friends start to notice, and so, in the early 2023, a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to buy one off of him (for practically a symbolic price), he had inherited. A Rebman "Boy" lathe out of the black forest.
Featuring regular M8x1.25 60° threads for it's leadscrews and gibs using flextures, it's not the most impressive machine ever, but in it's simplicity it was quite well made and massively build.
After building a table and some accessories for it I used it practically a few times, but soon after I got the briefing on using the big Meuser KM2 in the Studiwerkstatt Aachen e.V, making it quite unnecessary. And using a lathe and a bed in an 8 square meter room inevitably results in metal chips in bed, and thereby in your skin. Not recommended.
So, unfortunately the beautiful little machine gets basically no use nowadays. Maybe i'll CNC-ify it, build an enclosure and try convincing people in the hackspace to help me find space for it there. It would be a nice addition to the CNC-Router.
